Relationship with the Environment | Efforts Related to Global WarmingGlobal warming is a common concern for all mankind, and Nomura Group believes it is essential that we step up our efforts at preventing it. Achievements under the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Global Warming InitiativeIn December 2005, Nomura Securities Co., Ltd. submitted its Anti-Global Warming Action Plan to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government for our Nihonbashi Headquarters
(Main Building, Annex, Former Main Building). The plan we submitted to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government received the top rating of AA. Air Conditioning & Heating System upgradesWe overhauled our indoor climate control units, switching o to high-efficiency systems in order to reduce power consumption. In addition, we switched our heating energy source from oil to natural gas, reducing the volume of greenhouse gas emissions. We have also shortened the hours during which the air conditioning systems operate, and have upgraded temperature setting controls. Increasing Lighting EfficiencyWe improved efficiency while reducing the overall number of light fixtures at our headquarters. We have made facility improvements so that lights are turned off in unused areas, and partially turned off in common areas not used as work space. Our employees'commitment to turning off unnecessary lights has allowed us to reduce power use. Energy Efficient Office EquipmentEnergy efficiency is a major consideration when replacing office equipment. We have reduced office equipment power use by using the "sleep" function on monitors through other similar efforts. Reducing Power Consumption
Other Measures to Reduce Environmental ImpactThere are many issues that cannot be resolved by our efforts alone, as we directly own only 40% of the offices used by our Group companies. We do as much as possible to promote the installation of environmentally friendly appliances at both the offices we own as well as the premises that we rent. |
