Nomura appoints Country Co-head for Germany

Frankfurt and London, February 1, 2010 – Nomura, the global investment bank, today announced the appointment of Nikolai Ahrens as Country Co-head of Nomura Bank (Deutschland) GmbH alongside Koichi Katakawa. Mr. Ahrens also takes responsibility as Head of Investment Banking Germany and Austria as of February 1, 2010.

Mr. Ahrens currently holds the position as Global Co-Head of Natural Resources and Power and brings over 16 years of investment banking experience to the role. Prior to joining Nomura in November 2008, Mr. Ahrens was Head of European Chemicals within the Natural Resources Group at Lehman Brothers, a position he took up in 2007. Previously Mr. Ahrens worked at Citigroup.

Nikolai Ahrens succeeds Patrick Schmitz-Morkramer who will become Co-Head of Investment Banking Asia ex-Japan as of February 1, 2010. Mr. Schmitz-Morkramer will be based in Hong Kong.

Christian Karcher, Managing Director in Investment Banking Germany and Austria will also take on the new role of Chief Operating Officer, Investment Banking Germany and Austria as of February 1, 2010.

With 130 employees the German franchise in Frankfurt is Nomura's largest office in continental Europe.
