Nomura Appoints Head of Corporate Finance, Germany
Nomura announced today the appointment of a new Managing Director and Head of Corporate Finance, Germany. Dr Wolfgang Danner joins from HVB (Bayerische Hypo- und Vereinsbank AG) where he was Managing Director of Corporate Coverage & Financing.
Dr. Danner had been with HVB for a year. Before that he spent five years at Citigroup and eight years at B. Metzler and Metzler Corporation. His responsibilities at all institutions were to originate transactions for mid and large cap corporates in Germany. He has considerable experience of corporate finance and M&A advisory work as well as equity and debt capital markets. He covered a broad range of sectors but has particular strengths in automotive, chemicals, industrials and capital markets.
This is a newly created role and follows the recent announcements that Nomura has created a new German Capital Markets team and that Christian Thun-Hohenstein, formerly European Co-Head of Investment Banking at Deutsche Bank, has been appointed Co-Head of Investment Banking for Nomura in Europe.
Hideaki Sunaga, Head of Investment Banking, commented on the appointment, "We are keen to invest in our German business and Wolfgang has the expertise to build our presence there. We have been doing an increasing amount of work for German clients and as well as growing our European footprint, we aim to be the first point of call for any client wanting access to the Japanese markets."
Recent transactions that Nomura has advised on for German clients include the ?1.1bn exchangeable from KfW into Deutsche Post that was sold entirely to Japanese retail investors and the strategic investment by Siemens in the Beijing International Switching System Company.
Nomura has had an office in Frankfurt since 1973, at present principally providing Japanese equity sales to German institutional clients and Asset Management service via its subsidiary MAINTRUST.
