Since 2012, Nomura has been working with the Mt. Tohana Sakura Association to make Mt. Tohana in Watari District, Miyagi Prefecture, a popular cherry blossom viewing spot. Watari District suffered severe damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan in 2011. Over 2,000 cherry blossom trees have been planted on Mt. Tohana. Nomura has planted 622 of these trees, including 513 donated by our employees. Nomura visits Mt. Tohana twice a year to maintain the mountain path, build steps and help with the upkeep of the area. More than 1,100 Nomura employees have participated in this project to date.
