Senior Research Analyst Appointments Expand Nomura's Australian Equities Research Capabilities

Sydney, August 5, 2010 – Nomura, the global investment bank, continues its expansion in Australia with five foundation appointments to its Sydney-based Equity Research team.

The key appointments of Richard Johnson as Head of Equities Research Australia and Executive Directors David Cooke, Victor German, Dr David Stanton and Simon Thackray have come onboard to Nomura over the last two months.

Nomura's Head of Equities Australia, Andrew Norman, commented on the Equities Research team's growth, "Nomura's Equity Research team's global capabilities are growing exponentially. In Australia we offer our clients industry leading coverage of 13 sectors including Banks, Diversified Financials, Oil and Gas, Basic Industries, Consumer, Health Care and Telcos."

The Australia-based team is also supported by analysts throughout the region and globally. Xavier Grunauer, currently in Hong Kong but soon to transfer to the Australian office, covers Australia's Oil and Gas sector while Sachin Gupta reports on Telecommunications from Singapore. Utilities are covered by Daniel Ratts who is also Hong Kong-based, while UK-based Paul Cliff reports on the mining sector.

Nomura ranked number one in the inaugural Institutional Investor 2010 All-China Research Team ranking, first in Institutional Investor's 2010 All-Japan Research Team survey, and second in both the 2010 Institutional Investor All-Asia and All-Europe Research Team rankings.

Richard Johnson joins Nomura as Managing Director, Head of Equities Research Australia. Richard will also continue to actively cover the Basic Industries sector in Australia. He joins from ABN AMRO/RBS where he worked for 18 years in the UK, Singapore and, since 1999 in Australia, where he was Deputy Head of Research and part of the top ranked Basic Industries research team. Richard has an Honors degree from the University of Cape Town.

David Cooke joins as an Executive Director and Senior Equities Analyst covering Consumer companies. Prior to David's current role, he was at ABN AMRO/RBS where he worked for over 12 years and led the top ranking Consumer team. David is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Economics from Monash University.

Victor German joins as Executive Director and Senior Equities Analyst covering Banks and Financials. Prior to Victor's current role, he was at Deutsche Bank where he was part of the consistently top three rated banking team over the last six years. Victor holds a Masters of Finance from the University of New South Wales as well as a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Science degree.

Dr David Stanton joins Nomura as Executive Director, Health Care Analyst. Previously, David spent five years at ABN AMRO/RBS where he was the Head of Health Care Research Australia. David has received a Master of Business Administration degree from the Australian Graduate School of Management, Bachelor of Medicine/Surgery degrees and a Bachelor of Science degree.

Simon Thackray joins Nomura as Executive Director and Senior Equities Analyst covering Basic Industries after five years at the Royal Bank of Scotland. Simon spent 15 years working for a number of major industrial companies both in Australia and abroad in the areas of operations, finance and strategy. Simon holds a Master of Business Administration with Distinction from Macquarie Graduate School of Management in Sydney where he also continues to lecture and also holds a Bachelor of Economics from Macquarie University.
