Nomura Makes Further Hires in Global Investment Banking

London, 23 April 2007 – Nomura International plc today announced the appointment of Nicola Santangelo as Director of Financial Institutions (FIG), Investment Banking. Based in London, Nicola assumes responsibility for the Italian financial institutions market and will report to Fabio Massimo Genovese, who heads the FIG group.

In his new role, Nicola will focus primarily on the domestic and cross-border M&A activity of Italian banks.

Nicola joins Nomura from Rothschild S.P.A in Milan, where he was an Assistant Director in the FIG team, for five years. Prior to that, he spent three and a half years as Associate in the FIG team at Goldman Sachs, London. Nicola has nine years' experience in investment banking, and has largely focussed on Italian financial institutions. During his career, he has been involved in the execution of over thirty M&A transactions, and took part in a number of cross-border deals in Europe and Asia involving Italian counterparties.

Nicola's most notable assignments include adviser to Sanpaolo IMI's controlling shareholders on the €60 billion merger with Banca Intesa in 2006, adviser to BNL on the €4.6 billion tender offer by BNP Paribas in 2006, adviser to Bipop-Carire on the €7.9 billion merger with Banca di Roma in 2002, adviser to INA on the €12.3 billion takeover by Generali in 1999, and adviser to Ente CR Roma on the disposal of an 8.76% stake of Banca di Roma to ABN Amro in 1999.

To further underline its commitment to the Italian market, Nomura also hired Simone Righetti in February 2007 as an Associate in FIG Investment Banking. Prior to joining Nomura, Simone worked at Rothschild in the M&A FIG in Milan, where he was involved in several high-profile transactions on behalf of primary Italian banks. Before Rothschild, Simone worked at Sanpaolo IMI, in Rome. He will also be based in London.

Fabio Genovese, Managing Director and Head of FIG Investment Banking at Nomura said: "Both Nicola and Simone bring an array of skill and experience to the FIG Investment Banking team. The appointments emphasise Nomura's commitment to expanding its investment banking business in the Italian market and continue to offer our clients a superior service."
