Nomura Expands EMEA Equities Team with Nine Senior Hires

London, July 1, 2010 – Nomura, the global investment bank, today announced a substantial expansion of its European Equities sales organization with the appointment of nine senior hires across its Continental platform.

Nomura has rapidly expanded its European trading and research franchise over the past 18 months, ranking number one for customer market share on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) for 12 consecutive months. On Eurex, Nomura is among the top provider for index options on DAX and EUROSTOXX50. The European research team now covers close to 600 stocks and is ranked 2nd in the 2010 Institutional Investor Survey.

Commenting on the hires, John Candillier, Head of Distribution for Continental Europe said, "Having established Nomura's leadership on the LSE, our next challenge is to grow our market position significantly on the Continental exchanges. Raphaelle Vergnes joins as Executive Director, Head of Pan European Research Sales for France. Ms Vergnes joins Nomura from UBS and has over 10 years of experience selling Euro-pean Equities. She will report to Christophe Baudry, Head of Equities, France & Belgium and will be based in Paris.

Frederic Cezard joins as Executive Director, Senior Structured Derivatives Sales for France. Based in Paris, Mr Cezard joins Nomura from BNP Paribas and will report to Benjamin Cyrot, head of Structured Derivatives Sales for France.

Thomas Stein joins as Managing Director, Head of Pan-European Research Sales for Germany. Mr. Stein will be responsible for the distribution of Nomura's research products to German institutional clients, and will report to Thorsten Fröehlich, Head of Equities for Germany and Austria. Before joining Nomura, Mr. Stein worked at Citigroup from 2000 in a variety of roles, most recently as Head of Institutional Equity in Frankfurt.

Thomas Weichert and Sven Krüger join as Executive Directors in the European and Japanese Equities team. Mr. Weichert joins Nomura from Bankhaus Metzler, where he was a Director in German Equity Sales, prior to this he worked in European Equity Sales at Citigroup for over nine years. He will report into Mr. Stein. Mr. Krüger is an expert in Japanese equities and joins from NikkoCitigroup and Deutsche Bank prior. Mr. Krüger will report to the Head of Pan-Asian Research Sales in Europe, Daisuke Mototani.

Hellfried Schram joins the Execution Services Frankfurt desk as Executive Director, Senior Sales Trader for European Equities, reporting to Ralph Metzger, Head of Execution Services for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Mr. Schram joins from Icap in London and worked at both Credit Suisse and Lehman Brothers prior.

Eleonora Villa joins as Executive Director, Senior Structured Derivatives Sales for Italy. Ms Villa joins from Societe Generale in Milan, specializing in selling cross asset structured solutions to insurance companies and other financial institutions. Mrs Villa will be based in Milan and report to Alessandro Ricci, Head of Derivatives Sales for Southern Europe.

Anders Haehnel joins as an Executive Director, Head of Pan European Research Sales for the Nordics. Mr Haehnel joins from Deutsche Bank and will be responsible for distributing Nomura's leading European equity research product to institutional investors across the region. Mr. Haehnel will report to David Sahlin, Head of Equities for the Nordics.

Christophe Biedermann joins as a Managing Director, Head of Derivatives Sales for Switzerland. Mr Bierdermann spent the last 3 years in Dubai as a Managing Director of Diwan Capital, a hedge fund. Prior to this, Mr Bierdermann worked at UBS as an Executive Director of Equity Derivatives Sales and Structuring in Zurich, covering institutional accounts, hedge funds and family offices. He will be based in London initially and report to John Candillier, Head of Distribution, Continental Europe.
