January1926 Begins operations in Osaka as a bond house

March1927 New York office opened

June1938 Obtains approval for stock trading in Japan

December1946 Head office moves to Tokyo

November1948 Registered as a securities firm based on the Securities and Exchange Law

April1949 Becomes a member of the Tokyo Stock Exchange

October1961 Nomura Securities listed on the Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya stock exchanges.

March1964 London representative office opened

March1967 Establishes Nomura International (Hong Kong)

November1969 Nomura Securities International Inc. becomes a registered member of the Boston Stock Exchange

July1981 Nomura Securities International Inc. becomes a registered member of the New York Stock Exchange

September1982 Becomes the first foreign investment bank to open a representative office in Beijing

March1986 Nomura International Limited becomes a registered member of the London Stock Exchange.

October2001 Reorganizes into a holding company and the functions of Nomura Holdings, Inc. and Nomura Securities Co., Ltd. are split.

December2001 Nomura lists its shares on the New York Stock Exchange in the form of American Depositary Receipts.

February2007 Instinet becomes a subsidiary of Nomura Holdings, Inc.

October2008 Acquires parts of Lehman Brothers

May2016 Acquires a non-controlling 41% economic interest in American Century Investments
