Nomura Asset Management Co., Ltd.
Tokyo, December 2, 2022 - Nomura Asset Management Co., Ltd. (NAM), the core company within the Investment Management Division of Nomura Group, today announced that its subsidiary in the UK, Nomura Asset Management U.K. Limited (NAM UK), donated US$50,000 to Charity: Water as part of a three-year commitment to support their initiatives implemented over the past 15 years.
Over the next three years, NAM UK will donate a portion of the investment management fees received by Nomura Funds Ireland plc, an Irish based UCITS fund. This initial amount will be used to help fund a school in Niger and community projects in Ethiopia.
According to Charity: Water, one in 10, or 771 million people globally still have no access to clean, safe drinking water and sanitation. Having access to clean water can save 16,000 lives a week, of which 43 percent are children under the age of five. Additionally, every £1 invested in clean water has a £4-12 return for the local economy.
Through this initiative, NAM aims to improve the transparency of ESG activities and at the same time meet the expectations of asset managers in responding to social issues.
Hiroyasu Koike, President and CEO of NAM, commented: “We are delighted to make this initial donation to support the vital work Charity: Water has been doing, and help them fulfil their commitment to making an impact and ending the water crisis. This aligns with one of our key impact goals - Global Access to Clean Drinking Water - and we are excited to be part of this journey.”
As a responsible institutional investor, NAM will continue to address ESG issues to realize a sustainable and prosperous society.
