Bala Vikasa Social Service Society (Worli)
Effective FY 2022/23 Nomura's strategic focus has shifted to ESG and specifically towards Water - Availability & Conservation in rural India. For this purpose, Shahapur (3.5 hours from Mumbai city) as a geography was identified based on a needs-assessment study to undertake multiple water interventions. We partnered with Bala Vikasa Social Service Society and implemented community drinking water and water conservation project to improve the livelihoods of local communities in Shahapur block of Thane, Maharashtra. The project is divided in 3 major components:
1. Access to drinking water:
Construction of borewell recharge structures, overhead tanks and ground level tanks
2. Water Conservation and Livelihood Promotion:
Construction of farm ponds and check dams
3. Community Building:
Capacity Building and Awareness Session with the communities
The strategic focus on Water - Availability & Conservation continues in FY 2023/24.
Rain Water Harvesting (Powai)
In FY 22-23, we supported setting up of Rain water harvesting structures in 15 low income schools benefiting 7000+ students. These structures can potentially save more than 1.8 million liters of water in coming years.
Americas
Partnerships for Parks
The Americas Finance team, teamed up with Partnerships for Parks to volunteer at St. Nicholas Park in Manhattan. The team spent the day removing weeds, invasive vines, and debris from approximately 1,120 feet of fence line from the 14 blocks of park space. Partnerships for Parks is a unique public-private partnership between the City Parks Foundation and NYC Parks that supports and champions volunteers by providing the tools needed to advocate and care for neighborhood parks and green spaces.

In line with Nomura's long-term focus on sustainability, we organize a series of initiatives across our various office locations to help raise awareness, shift the social norm and reduce our impact on the environment.
Our employees go out into the community to volunteer with environmental organizations and support eco-friendly drives organized at our office buildings.
