Global Charity Challenge
In 2020, Nomura launched its inaugural Global Charity Challenge. This has now become a month-long initiative which is held every year. The event brings our employees all over the world together towards the common goals of promoting a healthy lifestyle and giving back to our local communities. During the month of September, participants engage and virtually compete in various types of physical exercise, and can make a donation in lieu of an entry fee. A common charitable cause is set each year with beneficiary charities chosen by each region.
Covid Relief
In 2020, Nomura Group employees around the world made donations for Covid relief. Nomura Group matched the donations, and a total of approximately ¥115.8 million was donated to various organizations supported by each region.
In Japan, ¥19.1 million was donated to the "Covid Spread Prevention Activity Fund." Approximately ¥17 million was also donated to the Japan Association for the World Food Programme, as a matching gift for some of the donations made by employees in overseas offices. In regions outside Japan, Nomura matched donations made by employees working in offices in Asia, Europe, and the Americas. The total amount of donations and matching gifts was approximately ¥80 million, and this money was donated to roughly 90 charitable organizations including food banks, child support organizations and medical support groups.
In 2021, in response to the rapid spread of Covid in India, Nomura Group donated US$2 million to two local organizations. In addition, Nomura Group matched donations made by employees around the world (approximately US$500,000), bringing the total to approximately US1$ million. These funds were donated to five charitable organizations to deliver emergency relief and recovery services, including the supply of oxygen to critically ill patients.
Disaster Emergency Support
When disaster strikes, Nomura Group works with its offices around the world to understand the situation in the affected areas, and provides financial support and/or relief supplies as necessary. In addition, depending on the extent of the disaster, Nomura employees carry out fundraising activities and the firm makes a matching donation.
